City in cruise control again Monday
September 23, 2006
The shopping district along Main Street goes back on cruise control Monday morning.
The Holland America Line's Amsterdam, which dropped nearly 1,000 passengers at Rose Wharf two weeks ago today for a day of exploring, shopping and eating, on the way to Montreal, makes its return visit with a different roster of guests.
The Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce and the city's Tourism Department are ready, said the chamber's Sara Young, having made a few tweaks in the way the guests are treated.
She said the trolley that took visitors around the city making random stops on request this time would make scheduled stops along Main Street.
Otherwise, Young just hoped for more good weather. The earlier visit coincided with a glorious late summer's Saturday.
The visit will be the second of six this fall by the Amsterdam and ships from the ultra high-end Seabourn Line this fall.
Young said a survey of passengers returning to the launch for the trip back to the big ship beyond the breakwater found the most favorable impression made by Gloucester was the friendliness of the people. The least favorable impression was the cleanliness - or lack thereof - of the streets.
